Wu Yunxin: Your host in Shaxi

 

 

Wu Yunxin moved to Shaxi from the nearby city of Jianchuan in the early 1990s to teach English in a small elementary school.  There he met his future wife who was also a teacher at the school.  In 2001, Mr. Wu invested money to remodel his home in order to be able to take in travelers.  He put in a hot shower and made 4 comfortable guest rooms. 

 

Mr. Wu’s English is impeccable.  Even now, his desire to learn and understand English and the Western world-view is as strong as ever.  His enthusiasm towards trekking and his compassion towards everyone he meets make him an ideal tour guide.  Spending time with him and his family is one of the high points of any trip to Shaxi.  Not to mention the fact that Mrs. Wu cooks up some of the finest Bai-style cuisine that Yunnan has to offer.
